FAQ

How Do I Place An Order?

Made to Order dresses can be ordered at anytime on the 'shop' tab. After ordering, you will be emailed with more information and any questions I have about fit, color, or special requests.

To order a custom dress, please email me directly at skatingdesignbybeth@gmail.com. I will try to respond within a day or two with information about the process and the next steps to take. Custom orders usually take 4-6 weeks, but I can do a rushed order for an extra fee! Please note that my other passion (and daytime career) is neuroscience research so I only take on a couple of orders per month (:

Payment and Shipping

Payment for Made-to-order dresses is done through the website and is a one-time payment. Custom orders require a 50% deposit before production is started with full payment to be paid before the completed order is shipped. Custom orders can be paid through mailed check, paypal, or credit card. I ship through USPS from the California Bay Area unless otherwise requested.

Returns & Refunds

Ready-to-Wear dresses may be returned within 30 days with attached tags and no sign of wear for a full refund. There are no returns or refunds on Made-to-Order and custom orders (since they are made to fit one specific person!) but please reach out to me if you have any problems with your order! I can arrange to do alterations or re-makes as needed.

Care Instructions

Crystals

It is normal for a few crystals to fall off as you wear your dress— skating movements are very complex and can stretch the fabric in ways that loosens the crystal glue! Save any crystals that fall off and reattach them using GemTac glue. Let the re-glued crystals dry for 24 hours before wearing the dress again.

Cleaning

Most skaters don’t regularly wash their costumes since many costumes can be delicate and cleaning them properly is difficult. Since ice rinks are usually very cold, it is unlikely that your dress will need to be cleaned after only a couple of performances. I recommend only cleaning the dress when absolutely necessary.

To wash your dress:

  1. Clean out a sink, tub, or another large container to get rid of any potential residue.

  2. Fill the sink with about 5 inches of warm water.

  3. Mix a couple of tablespoons of gentle liquid detergent into the warm water and stir to combine. You should add enough detergent so that bubbles start to form on the surface of the water.

  4. Place your dress in the water and submerge it completely. Swish and mix the dress around to make sure the soapy water soaks in. Gently rub the fabric in places that may have gotten extra dirty. Be extra careful around the crystals! The water will loosen the glue and crystals are more likely to fall off when the dress is wet.

  5. Let the dress soak for 20-30 minutes.

  6. After the time is up, drain the soapy water from the sink and refill it with clean water. Swish the dress around in the clean water. Repeat until you are sure that all the soap has been rinsed out of the dress.

  7. Transfer the dress to a towel and let it air dry for a couple of hours. Flip the dress onto the other side halfway through.

  8. After the dress is fairly dry, hang it up on a hanger to dry completely.
